What is Gas Cylinder Price Today? (Image: X)
Domestic LPG rates today remain unchanged in every major city across India, despite the fact that there has been no upward revision of the domestic prices for gas cylinders nationwide. As a result, the 14.2 kg domestic LPG gas cylinder continues to be priced at Rs 913 in New Delhi. No upward price revisions have taken place since last month that would provide both stability and comfort for consumers that are already facing much higher prices for their day to day living expenses.
Gas cylinder prices today also continue to reflect an overall rise in the price of LPG over the last year. Over the past 12 months, LPG prices will have increased by approximately Rs 60, between May 2025 and April 2026. The most significant increase was during March 2026, when the domestic gas cylinder was subject to a sudden increase of Rs 60, thus creating more financial pressure on households.
While there may be some slight variations in how gas cylinders are priced from city to city, there are no significant differences amongst major metropolitan areas across the country. In Mumbai, a domestic gas cylinder simply costs around Rs 912.50, while the same cylinder will cost around Rs 929.00 in Kolkata. In Chennai, the average cost per domestic gas cylinder is around Rs 918.50. Therefore, while there clearly is a regional pricing difference amongst major metropolitan areas, price trends today remain very similar and have continued to increase.
The difference in prices from city to city when buying gas cylinders shows how much the cost of delivery and taxes affect what you pay. Since there hasn’t been a reduction in the price over the past few months, people in general are still having difficulty, particularly in large cities where they use LPG often and do not have many options to choose from.
Gas cylinders are very expensive in black markets even though they have not increased. In many areas, if you want to go to the black market, you will be paying Rs 3000 or more for a cylinder depending on where you are located and how much available supply there is, and the demand.
The increase in prices in the black market create a real concern for the government, because people who do not receive their regular deliveries are often forced to buy from black market vendors, which charge up to 3 times what you would normally be charged from your local government supplier. This is a concern due to the existing issues regarding gaps in the supply chain as well as lack of enforcement around illegal delivery.
With no changes to official prices and black market prices continuing to rise rapidly, many consumers are now looking for government action to reduce the financial impact of rising gasoline prices. With the rising price of gas cylinders today having a direct impact on the household budget, there is a growing call from consumers for more stringent regulation and penalties imposed on those caught selling gas illegally.
