PM Modi Meets Chinese FM Wang Yi, Accepts SCO Summit Invitation

PM Modi met Chinese FM Wang Yi, accepted President Xi’s SCO Summit invitation, and emphasized peaceful borders, fair resolution of the boundary issue, and constructive India-China ties, welcoming progress in bilateral relations and the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Today, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party and Foreign Minister of China, in a high-level diplomatic meeting. Mr. Wang Yi presented a message and provided an official invitation from President Xi Jinping to PM Modi for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.

During the meeting, Mr. Wang Yi shared his positive evaluation of recent bilateral engagements, including his discussions with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and the 24th Meeting of the Special Representatives, co-headed with National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval during his visit to India.

PM Modi underlined the importance of maintaining peace and calmness along the India-China border and replicate India’s commitment to a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question. PM Modi highlighted that stable borders are critical to nurture trust and cultivate bilateral cooperation.

PM Modi welcomed the balanced and positive progress in India-China ties since his meeting with President Xi in Kazan last year. He noted that developments have been guided by mutual respect, mutual interest, and mutual sensitivity, including the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which has strengthened people-to-people connections.

Expressing gratitude to President Xi for the SCO Summit invitation, PM Modi officially accepted the invitation and conveyed his support for China’s presidency of the summit. He expressed his expectations for bilateral discussions with President Xi in Tianjin, emphasizing the importance of constructive engagement between the two countries.

PM Modi ended the talks by stressing that stable, predictable, and constructive ties between India and China will contribute immensely to regional and global peace and prosperity, restrengthening the strategic importance of diplomacy in maintaining harmony and promoting mutual growth.
