Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday slammed the BJP and the Election Commission and alleged that governments are being “seized” through vote theft.
He and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Manoj Jha claimed that the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ has drawn massive support in villages and people are joining it
Speaking at the press conference, Surjewala said, “Governments are being seized by stealing votes. Why do these people want to take away the right of the country’s citizens to form a government?”
The Congress general secretary and Karnataka incharge also said that how large-scale corruption in government schemes are present in Bihar.
Targeting the Nitish Kumar-led government over corruption, Surjewala mentioned a CAG report that flagged irregularities amounting to over Rs 70,000 crore and said, “There is complete silence on this issue, however, they used to target our government on the CAG report.”
He also mentioned the poll panel data highlighting the multiple voters in same building in few assembly seats as well as multiple entry of voters at different addresses.
Surjewala said: “This is the reality after the poll panel carried out SIR in its updated draft rolls.
He also highlighted unemployment, migration and poor health facilities in the state.
“The reason behind all these problems is that the government came by manipulation here,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, Jha said that the current election was not just about changing the government but about redefining priorities.
He even mentioned that the yatra is receiving the tremendous response because people are joining the yatra on their own as it aims to safeguard their voting rights.
The RJD’s Rajya Sabha MP further pointed out that Bihar is struggling with migration, unemployment, and poverty and stressed that the same has been said by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav to the people of the state that it needs fundamental change, not superficial fixes.
Taking a swipe at the poll body, Jha alleged that even before voter list revision, the chief election commissioner predicted that 20 per cent of votes would be deleted.
“It seems the Election Commission is not here to conduct elections, but to remove opposition from the path. However, the people of Bihar have understood these tactics and will not remain silent,” he said.
