The Karbi Anglong district administration didn’t waste any time today, filing a police complaint after a video allegedly showing the internal voting process started circulating on social media.

The footage was reportedly filmed inside a booth in the Diphu constituency. This is a major breach of protocol, as the Election Commission has a strict ban on mobile phones inside polling stations. Usually, voters are required to leave their phones and bags at designated deposit counters before heading in to cast their ballots.

Officials confirmed that an inquiry is already underway, and an FIR has been officially registered under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Assamese singing sensation Papon shared some relatable frustrations after casting his ballot in Guwahati today. While he enjoyed the “homecoming” vibe of election day, he pointed out a major hurdle for many voters: the sky-high cost of traveling back home to vote.

Papon suggested it might be time for India to embrace tech-driven solutions like biometrics to ensure no one is sidelined by their zip code or bank balance.

“Lots of people are missing out on voting because of high ticket prices. It’s nice to meet people after years during voting. Something like biometric or fingerprint scanning, some kind of remote voting system in India, would be helpful, as many people are missing out on voting,” he said.

International observers from the International Election Visitors’ Programme (IEVP) visited polling stations across the 30 Hajo Sualkuchi (SC) constituency in Assam today.

The delegates expressed high praise for the seamless organization and the vibrant, festive atmosphere at the booths.

Assam recorded a voter turnout of 59.63% till 1 PM on Thursday (April 9, 2026) during the ongoing Assembly elections.

Among the electorate, 6,42,314 voters are in the age group of 18-19 years, 2,50,006 are above 80 years of age, and 2,05,085 are persons with disabilities.
