South Africa’s openers, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits, launched a strong attack on the English bowlers right from the start, denying them any consistency.
Wolvaardt looked in sublime form early on, while Brits, despite a shaky start, found her rhythm to build a solid 116-run opening stand.
The innings hit a rough patch when South Africa suddenly lost three wickets for just three runs, tumbling from 116/0 to 119/3. Marizanne Kapp then teamed up with Wolvaardt to steady the innings, putting together a 72-run stand for the fourth wicket. After reaching her century, Wolvaardt shifted gears, smashing boundaries with ease during an 89-run partnership with Chloe Tryon, in which she scored 68 runs herself. Following her dismissal, Nadine de Klerk and Tryon closed out the innings in style, adding 28 runs in the final two overs to give South Africa a strong finish.
