An Iranian military official denied reports of any attack on Saudi Arabia’s Al Kharj Air Base, saying that “Iran has not fired any shots” at the facility that hosts US troops, according to Iran’s state-run IRIB broadcaster.

The statement came after Saudi authorities issued a security alert in Al Kharj Governorate, where the air base is located, warning residents of a potential threat in the area.

The Israeli military said it had identified the launch of a missile from Yemen toward Israeli territory and that air defence systems were operating to intercept the threat.

No immediate details were available on the missile’s trajectory or the outcome of interception efforts.

Following Iran’s missile barrage targeting Israel on Sunday, Israeli military spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin accused Tehran of making what he called a “grave mistake” and warned that Israel would not tolerate direct attacks on its territory.

Defrin said Iran was attempting to establish a “new equation” by launching direct fire at Israel in response to Israeli military operations in Dahyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Beirut. He stressed that Israel would reject any such effort and continue its military campaign.

Iran has closed the airspace surrounding Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, the country’s primary international aviation hub, following an Israeli attack, according to the Associated Press. Iranian state media reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed explosions were heard in at least three cities – Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan.

The IRGC further alleged that the Israeli military carried out the operation using air-launched ballistic missiles.
