World News Live Updates: US Brokers Ceasefire Plan in Suweida; Syria Welcomes Effort, Israel Silent

Gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus in southwestern Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Wednesday, leaving at least three people dead and seven others injured, according to police and government officials.

The attack took place in the Kalat district, a region that has witnessed repeated violence linked to separatist militant groups demanding independence from Pakistan’s government. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the shooting.

More than 6,000 Italian firms face direct exposure to the risks posed by increased U.S. tariffs, according to a report published Wednesday by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA). U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that a 30 percent tariff on imports from the European Union (EU) and Mexico will take effect starting August 1. The ITA report highlights that the majority of the affected companies are micro and small enterprises engaged in high-value-added sectors, including the beverage industry, metal products, pharmaceuticals, furniture, retail trade, and transport-related products excluding motor vehicles.

Around two dozen mostly Republican members of the U.S. Congress have taken to X to voice their opposition to a proposed law in Ireland that would ban imports from Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

Those speaking out against the measure include Senators Hal Rogers, Tom Cotton, Bill Hagerty, Kevin Cramer, Lindsey Graham, and Rick Scott, as well as Representatives Mario Diaz-Balart, Tom Emmer, Daniel Webster, Lisa McClain, Mike Lawler, Andy Barr, Pete Stauber, Harriet Hageman, Mike Crapo, Andy Ogles, Barry Moore, Mark Messmer, and Claudia Tenney.

Joining them are Jewish Democratic Representatives Brad Schneider and Josh Gottheimer, who also posted statements against the legislation. All the posts appear to be part of a coordinated effort, with messages surfacing within the past few hours.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence. “We have agreed on specific steps that will bring this troubling and horrifying situation to an end tonight,” Rubio wrote on X on Wednesday evening, adding that he was “very worried” but optimistic the violence would cease within hours.

Syria’s foreign ministry said Damascus “welcomes the efforts made by the US and Arabian sides” to resolve the crisis peacefully.

Israel has not yet publicly commented on the ceasefire discussions.

Israel wants to continue with its plans of constructing a humanitarian city in Gaza. However, it is described as a ‘concentration camp’ by experts and rights groups across the world.

The city is expected to be built in Rafah, an area in the south of Gaza.

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz was the first one to reveal the idea and wants around 600,000 Palestinians of Gaza to be transferred to the city.

Later, the Israeli minister wants to transfer all the remaining population of Gaza to the new city.

The Israeli government says the city would be administered by global bodies with zero Hamas members inside it. However, multiple former Israeli officials have rejected the idea.

Palestinians living in Gaza have also dismissed the plan and called it an example of ethnic cleansing.
