The crew of the Artemis II mission has shared a striking image of Earth taken from their spacecraft while travelling on a historic journey around the Moon. The picture was released during what is already being called one of the most important human space missions in more than 50 years.
NASA confirmed that the astronauts captured high-resolution images of Earth as the Orion spacecraft moved through deep space. The moment quickly gained attention after being posted on social media, showing the planet glowing against the darkness of space.
NASA also shared the image with a simple but powerful message, saying, “That’s us!” The agency explained that the astronauts were deeply moved while looking at Earth from such a far distance.

The Artemis II Mission Will Be The First Human-Flown Orbital Moon Flight Since The 1960’s. It is part of NASA’s long-term plan to return humans to the Moon and prepare for future missions to Mars.

While on the mission, the astronauts have been using cameras aboard the spacecraft to take pictures of the Earth and Moon. NASA says they are able to take unique and rare photographs of both the Earth and Moon from different points of view in deep space.
The recent picture shared today is part of a larger project to visually document the journey. Scientists hope these photographs will help the public get a better idea of what it is like to travel in deep space.
The spacecraft is currently traveling towards a planned flyby of the Moon. During the flyby, it will fly behind the lunar surface, using its gravitational pull to change its flight path back to Earth.
NASA has indicated that the crew is okay, and all systems on the spacecraft are working normally. The mission will continue for several more days before the trip home begins.
A New Era of Human Space Exploration: The Artemis program is designed to restart human exploration of outer space beyond low Earth orbit. NASA officials say missions like Artemis II are very important steps toward building future bases on the Moon and eventually sending humans to Mars.
