Since joining the Chennai Super Kings team in 2025, Ayush Mhatre has been a revelation for the five-time champions. The right-handed batter scored 73 runs in only 43 balls against the Punjab Kings at Chidambaram Stadium.
During his fiery knock, the 18-year-old became the youngest player to hit a fifty in IPL at Chepauk. Mhatre broke a 14-year-long record held by Mandeep Singh. The list features some of the top players, including the likes of Suresh Raina and Prithvi Shaw.
Ayush Mhatre becomes the youngest to score an IPL fifty at Chepauk
At 18 years and 261 days, Ayush Mhate has become the youngest player to score a fifty in the IPL at Chepauk. The right-handed batter broke the record held by Mandeep Singh. Mandeep, playing for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), scored a fifty at Chepauk when he was 20 years old in 2012.
Batting at number three, Mhatre entered the crease at a tricky time for his team. Having lost Sanju Samson in the second over itself, the 18-year-old made full use of the fielding restrictions early in his innings. At the end of the power play, Mhatre had scored 29 runs in 19 balls, hitting four fours and a solitary six.
He accelerated after the first six overs were completed and struck a couple of sixes against Marco Jansen and Marcus Stoinis. He brought up his half-century in only 29 balls.
Mhatre was dismissed after scoring 73 runs in 43 balls. He was dismissed by Vijaykumar Vyshak on the third ball of the 13th over. The Mumbai-born struck five sixes and six fours in his knock.
