IPL 2026 LSG vs DC: Mohammed Shami Creates History, Becomes 1st Bowler To…

The wicket of KL Rahul on the first ball of the second half of the LSG-DC match at Ekana Stadium helped Mohammed Shami enter his name in the history books. The 35-year-old fast bowler is the first bowler in the history of the Indian Premier League to take a wicket on the first ball of an innings five times.

Lucknow Super Giants and India pacer Mohammed Shami created history after he scalped Delhi Capitals’ opener KL Rahul’s wicket on the very first delivery of the innings as he became the first bowler in the history of the Indian Premier League to take a wicket on the first ball of an innings five times.

Shami bowled a fuller delivery outside off and Rahul slashed it hard only to find a Mohsin Khan at the third man. While Shami has achieved the feat five times, Pravin Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Trent Boult, Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashok Dinda and Pat Cummins have done it thrice.

LSG is Shami’s sixth team in the IPL. He has previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

LSG vs DC

Chasing 142, the Delhi Capitals clinched a win by 6 wickets after suffering some early hiccups in the chase. The LSG pacers scalped early wickets to reduce the Capitals to 26/4 but Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs came in for the rescue and stitched an unbeaten stand of 119 to see the side home by 6 wickets.

Rizvi who had come in as the Impact Player started off in a cautious manner and then took the LSG bowlers on after he got settled in. Stubbs on the other side, also took his time and supported Rizvi pretty well. While Rizvi hit 70* off 47, Stubbs chipped in with 39* off 32.

Shami eventually returned with figures of 1/28 in four overs while Prince Yadav scalped a couple for 20 in three. Mohsin Khan picked up one wicket but maintained a brilliant economy rate as he just gave 19 runs in four overs and also bowled a maiden.

Earlier, the LSG batters were rattled by Lungi Ngidi and Natarajan as both the bowlers picked up three wickets apiece and helped DC bowl out the opposition for 141. Abdul Samad top-scored with 36 off 25 while Mitchell Marsh struck 35 off 28.

“It was pretty straight in, and yeah, it was pretty simple what we needed to do, just bat a bit of time and build a partnership. And the way Rizvi batted was magnificent. You’re always looking to score, but it’s like it’s telling you what to do. You’ve just got to bat a bit of time. It was doing a bit. It swung for long, and there was always a bit of nip. So it was really just good cricket, and just take the game out of it,” Stubbs said after the match.
