Lucknow Super Giants’ pacers put up a brilliant performance while defending a small total of 142 against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday in Lucknow. The side eventually suffered a defeat but did create some problems for the Capitals during the chase.

Now, Badruddin Siddiqui who is the coach of LSG teammates, Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan shared a hilarious anecdote while talking to TOI. “We were having tea at Shami’s farmhouse, and Mohsin was just coming out of the gym. I remember Shami’s words, ‘Mohsin miyaan, gym se body ban jayegi, bowling nahi’ (Gym can shape your body, not your bowling),” shared Badruddin.

The stern remark from Shami left Mohsin shocked. “His jaw dropped,” recollects Badruddin.
“A fast bowler should train on the ground. If you want to bowl at 140 kph, you have to grind on the field. Gym se bowling improve nahi hoti (Your bowling will not improve in the gym),” he says.

He further revealed how Shami has been a mentor to Mohsin whose career has been marred with injuries.

“Shami has helped him a lot, right from the start. It was during the lockdown that he started living and training with Shami at his farmhouse. The results were there for everyone to see in IPL 2022. Mohsin is tall and his ball climbs onto a batter quicker than Shami. You tell me how many left-arm quicks can swing the ball both ways at 140 kmph and generate such a steep bounce. No one in India at present,” he praises his ward,” the coach revealed.

“In these months, he has also realised the importance of fitness. He is 27 and at best he can play five to six more years, but if he improves his fitness, he can extend that by two more years,” he added.

LSG Suffer Defeat

Delhi Capitals (DC) started the new IPL season with a thumping six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, and the DC skipper Axar Patel accepted that he is ‘very happy with his bowling unit.’

Asked to bat first, LSG were bowled out for 141 thanks to the seamer Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan’s three wickets apiece. Riding on Sameer Rizvi’s unbeaten 70 runs, DC chased down the target comfortably and started their campaign with an easy two points.

Rizvi played an unbeaten knock of 70 runs off just 47 balls, which helped his side chase down a challenging target of 142 runs with six wickets and 17 balls to spare.Delhi Capitals have now secured five consecutive wins against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, making them the third team against whom DC has achieved such a streak.

Previously, they had also won five consecutive matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad between 2020 and 2023, and against Rajasthan Royals from 2018 to 2020.
