Royal Challengers Bengaluru rode on an emphatic partnership between AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli to post a total of 248/3 in 20 overs against Gujarat Lions in 2016 edition. The two batters stitched a stand of 229 runs for the second wicket.

Virat Kohli has been an integral part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru right from the very beginning and has scored heaps of runs for the franchise. The flamboyant batter has notched up numerous and one of them was the partnership with AB de Villiers where the two batters stitched a partnership of 229 runs for the second wicket.

Now, in a video posted on RCB’s official X handle, Kohli is seen giving answers in a rapid fire round where the former skipper got four out of the five answers right on spot. The last question that was asked was about his partnership with ABD against Gujarat Lions in 2016.

The Record Stand

Royal Challengers Bengaluru batted first and posted a mammoth 248/3 in 20 overs. After losing Chris Gayle early, Kohli was joined by ABD and the two batters took on the Gujarat bowlers with authority. Both of them hammered the bowling unit all around the park and notched up individual tons. 

While Kohli struck 109 off 55, ABD remained unbeaten at 129 off 52. Later, RCB bowlers did the job for them and bowled the team out for 104. Aaron Finch was the top-scorer with 37 off 38. Chris Jordan rattled the batting unit with a four-wicket haul for 11 runs in three overs while Yuzvendra Chahal scalped three for 19 runs in his four overs. 

Virat Kohli’s Record-Breaking Performance

This wasn’t the only match where Virat Kohli was on song. The right-handed batter smashed 973 runs in one season. He still holds the record for most number of runs in one single edition. Apart from this, Kohli also struck four centuries in 2016 edition. 

RCB reached the final of 2016 IPL season but lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. 

RCB’s Title Defence

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru began the title defence on a positive note as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets to chase down the target of 202 in just under 16 overs. Kohli once again showed his class and hammered 69* off 38, a knock decorated with five maximums and as many fours.
