In the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025–26 on Friday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, Punjab FC overcame Mohammedan Sporting Club 2-1 thanks to two swift goals early in the second half.
Mohammedan is still useless at the bottom of the table, while Punjab FC moved up to fifth place with 11 points as a result of the victory. According to a statement, Dani Ramirez, the captain of the Shers, was selected Player of the Match.
Bede Amarachi Osuji and Suresh Meitei were added to Punjab FC’s roster by head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis. After their last game, Mohammedan SC head coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo made six changes, adding Israfil Dewan, Yash Chickro, Makan Winkle Chothe, Zodingliana, Hira Mondal, and Lalremsanga Fanai.
At home, Punjab got off to a good start and created early opportunities. In the seventh minute, striker Nsungusi Jr. hit the crossbar, and shortly afterward, left back Muhammad Uvais headed just over a goal from winger Manglenthang Kipgen.
Mohammedan grabbed the lead against the flow of play in the 29th minute despite the hosts’ early pressure. Lalremsanga Fanai scored smoothly from the right side of the box into the far post to give the visitors a 1-0 lead, thanks to a brilliant through ball from right defender Hira Mondal.
Dani Ramirez and Nsungusi Jr. both came dangerously near as the Shers persisted in their pursuit of an equalizer prior to halftime. The hosts trailed by one goal at the break, and center back Suresh Meitei came closest in the 45th minute with a strong long-range shot that rattled the crossbar before bouncing on the line.
Muhammad Suhail and Pramveer were added by Dilmperis at the beginning of the second half, and their effects were felt right away.
Pramveer skillfully switched play to Ramirez just two minutes after the restart. Samir Zeljkovic controlled Ramirez’s cross into the area before it was laid off to Nsungusi Jr. With a composed finish using his left foot, the striker tied the score at one for Punjab.
In the 52nd minute, the hosts finished the turnaround. Punjab took a 2-1 lead after Ricky Shabong sent a long ball into the box for Osuji, who passed it across goal for arriving Ramirez to finish first time into an empty net.
Nsungusi Jr. and Ramirez both posed a threat in the last third as Punjab sought to increase their lead. In the 85th minute, Nsungusi Jr. forced a stop from Mohammedan custodian Padam Chettri, and shortly after, Ramirez just missed.
In the last third, Mohammedan lacked the cutting edge despite pushing forward in an attempt to equalize.
Punjab FC grabbed all three points with a powerful comeback in the second half, and the final whistle confirmed their 2-1 victory.
