Pakistan and Multan Sultans pacer Muhammad Ismail was taken to the cleaners in the opening over of the rain-shortened contest of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 against the Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on April 3, Friday. In what was a 26-run over, the 20-year-old leaked 14 off only the first delivery as the defending champions set up the tone for themselves.

How did Muhammad Ismail give away 14 runs off the first ball?

With the Multan Sultans opting to bowl first, captain Ashton Turner threw the ball to Ismail, who bowled two four-wides to start apart from the boundary off Mohammad Naeem’s bat. Naeem struck two more boundaries off the next three deliveries but finished it off with two singles. The 26-run over also proved to be the most expensive first over in the tournament history.

Here’s the video of the same:

Due to showers in Lahore, the match underwent a lengthy delay and started only at 8:45 local time with 13 overs per side. As per the rules, 3 bowlers can bowl a maximum of 3 overs, 2 bowlers can bowl a maximum of 2 overs. Powerplay of 3.5 overs. Lahore had notably witnessed a washout between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi.

Lahore Qalandars (Playing XI): Mohammad Naeem, Parvez Hossain Emon, Abdullah Shafique, Rubin Hermann, Haseebullah Khan(w), Sikandar Raza, Asif Ali, Shaheen Afridi(c), Haris Rauf, Ubaid Shah, Mustafizur Rahman
Multan Sultans (Playing XI): Sahibzada Farhan, Steven Smith, Ashton Turner(c), Shan Masood, Josh Philippe(w), Arafat Minhas, Mohammad Nawaz, Peter Siddle, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Muhammad Ismail, Faisal Akram.
Multan Sultans, led by Turner, have been unbeaten in the two games they have played. They chased down 172 against former champions Islamabad United and followed it up by gunning down 227 against the Hyderabad Kingsmen – both in Lahore. Sultans are also currently at the top of the points table. The Qalandars, meanwhile, beat the Hyderabad Kingsmen by 69 runs to start their campaign but lost to the Karachi Kings. The Qalandars are the defending champions, having beaten Quetta Gladaitors in PSL 2025 final by six wickets after chasing down 202 in 19.5 overs.
At the time of writing this, the Qalandars were on track for a massive total against Sultans.
