Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant endured an extremely unlucky way to be dismissed in their IPL 2026 opener against the Delhi Capitals on April 1, Wednesday at the Ekana Stadium. The left-handed batter was run out at the non-striker’s end as Mukesh Kumar merely lent his hand to catch the Super Giants’ captain short of his crease.
Rishabh Pant opens for Lucknow Super Giants for the first time
After a forgettable IPL 2025 when he struggled almost the entire season while batting in the middle, Pant decided to open the innings alongside Mitchell Marsh. The southpaw played a classy shot in the very first over bowled by Mukesh but remained quiet in the deliveries to follow that he faced. The dismissal occurred in the third over as the right-arm seamer bowled a good length delivery and Marsh played a straight drive. With the ball being too straight, Mukesh stuck his hand out and the ball hit his hand before striking the stumps. Pant knew he was out and started walking before the replays confirmed it too.

It’s hard to judge Rishabh Pant since he played only 9 balls , no intent in the first match, but one thing for sure, he looks finished in T20. pic.twitter.com/S52ePwqSz7

Delhi Capitals also dismiss Aiden Markram and Ayush Badoni
With Capitals captain Axar Patel coming for his second over, he got the in-form Aiden Markram, who threatened to go hammer and tongs but his innings ended at 11. The toss had also gone the left-arm spinner’s way and fielded first, cited fresh wicket and red soil. Meanwhile, left-arm seamer T Natarajan had Ayush Badoni nicking to KL Rahul behind the stumps in his first over.
