Will Rohit Sharma Pass the Bronco Test to Play 2027 World Cup? Ex-Cricketer Makes Shocking Claims (Image Credit - ANI)
Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has caused a fresh debate by associating the recently introduced Bronco test with the future of ODI skipper Rohit Sharma in World Cup. To Tiwary, the shift in fitness requirements may be an attempt to ensure that Rohit does not play in the 2027 tournament.
Rohit Sharma will be 40 by 2027 and he will already have retired in Tests and T20Is. His batting prowess has never been called into question but fitness has been a subject of discussion regarding him. His body language is often ridiculed by critics, but has seldom taken away the impression he has created in the crease.
The Bronco test, in contrast to the older Yo-Yo test, determines stamina by means of repeated shuttle runs of 20, 40, and 60 meters without rest. Experts reckon that it is more vigorous than the Yo-Yo standard which had initially posed a challenge even to top cricketers when Virat Kohli era had initially imposed it.
In an interview with Cricktracker, Manoj Tiwary expressed his doubts as to whether the Bronco test is really aimed at ousting the old players like Rohit Sharma. He said, “I think it will be very difficult to keep Virat Kohli out from the plans for the 2027 World Cup. But I have a doubt that they are going to look at Rohit Sharma in the scheme of things.”
Tiwary continued by saying, “I believe this Bronco Test, which was introduced a few days back, is for players like Rohit Sharma and someone who I believe they don’t want to be a part of the team in the future. And that’s why it has been introduced.”
The ex-cricketer also wondered why the test was brought up so abruptly His argument was that fitness is not an urgent issue that decisions should have been taken earlier under a new head coach and not just prior to a new era of cricket.
“You know, the Bronco Test will be one of the toughest fitness test parameters that has been introduced by Indian cricket. But the only question is, why now? Why not when your new head coach got the assignment from the very first series?” Tiwary asked.
He added, “Whose idea is it? Who introduced this? Who enforced this Bronco Test a few days back? So it is a question for which I don’t have an answer, but the observation says that it is going to be difficult for Rohit Sharma if he doesn’t work really hard on his fitness.”
Rohit is apparently going the extra mile to gear his body towards the rigors of the next World Cup despite the conspiracy theories. Having stepped down in Tests and T20Is, his focus now completely falls on leading India in ODIs and potentially continuing his career until 2027.
The controversy surrounding the Bronco test has given another twist to his future. Whether Rohit Sharma can pass this test or not, his presence in Indian cricket is a major consideration and the future years will tell us whether experience can triumph over the rigorous requirements of fitness in the contemporary world.
