Yuvraj Singh Backs Virat Kohli For 2027 ODI World Cup, Recalls Lack of Clarity During His Own Career

Yuvraj Singh, who played his last game for the Men in Blue in 2017, retired during the 2019 World Cup. He finished his career with 304 ODI, 40 Test and 58 T20I caps. Yuvraj was the vice-captain of Team India that won the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has put his weight behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and has stated that two batters should look to play for the national side beyond ODI World Cup 2027.

“I do not know what is going on in their minds. They look like they are committed to play the World Cup. There should be some clarity because they are such senior players,” Yuvraj Singh told Sports Tak.

The left-handed batter further added that there should be clarity from the team management.

“I had no clarity from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), captain or coach. It should happen. But I feel that you will need experience in the team. You can’t just take only the young players for the World Cup. You need somebody like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the squad for the World Cup. But whatever you are thinking, you need to be clear. Do not leave them in a dilemma. Because Rohit, who perhaps has been the best white-ball opener, and the winning captain of the World Cup and the Champions Trophy, deserves the respect,” Yuvraj added.

Yuvraj Singh backs Virat Kohli

Yuvraj Singh has lavished praise on Virat Kohli and said that there is no match to the kind commitment that Kohli has.

“Virat Kohli can do anything. He came to play first IPL match after not playing a T20 for almost a year, and the way he batted, it didn’t look like he was rusty even for a single ball,” the 44-year-old added.

“There’s no comparison when it comes to his commitment. And a guy who is still this hungry after achieving everything can do anything, to be honest,” Yuvraj asserted.

Yuvraj Singh an Integral Part of Team India

Yuvraj Singh played a vital role in India’s World Cup wins in 2007 and 2011. The left-handed batter produced some brilliant batting performances including six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad and a 30-ball 70 against Australia in 2007. In 2011, the all-rounder produced a brilliant show and was named the Player of the Tournament.
