French President Emmanual Macron has hit back at the US President Donald Trump after he passes personal remark targeting French President Macron and his wife. Macron hit back on Trump while speaking to Press during a visit to South Korea, he said “Trump talks too much. His remarks are neither elegant nor up to the standard.”
The response came after a private lunch where President Trump mocked French President. Claiming he was “still recovering from the right to the jaw” and alleging that his wife, Brigitte Macron, “treats him extremely badly”.
The comment referenced a May 2025 video from a Vietnam visit which show that first lady Brigitte Macron was pushing the French President’s face before they disembarked their plane. Macron has earlier dismissed the clip as “disinformation” claiming that they were just joking.
US President Trump made a remark while criticising NATO allies over their stance on the US-Iran conflict. Trump said that he called French President and asked him to send support to the Gulf.
Trump said, “We’d love to have some help…could you send ships immediately?” he claimed that Macron declined the help and suggested that France could assist “after the war is won”. President Trump mimicking a French accent further said, “I don’t need help after the war is won.”
President Trump also raised concerns regarding NATO’s reliability, he called the alliance a “paper tiger” and warning it “won’t be there if we ever have a big one”
The remark passed by Trump on French President Macron has created political criticism and anger against the White House in France consisting of French opposition. President of National Assembly Yael Braun-Pivet said that the comments were “not up to the mark”, particularly during the time of global conflict. She said, “People are dying, and we have a president mocking others.”
Manuel Bompard, who is associated with France Unbowed party also condemned the remark, saying that despite of political difference such comments about President Macron and his wife were “absolutely unacceptable.”
On the ongoing West Asian tension particularly at Strait of Hormuz, French President Macron has warned against any kind of military attempt to reopen the Starit of Hormuz making it clear that France does not support any such voilence move.
He said during his official visit of South Korea that “Some people defend the idea of freeing the Strait of Hormuz by force This was never the option we have supported because it is unrealistic.”
He further warned that such military operation would be prolonged and risky, he said “It would take forever and expose global shipping to threats from the Revolutionary Guards as well as ballistic missiles,” adding that diplomacy remains the only possible solution.
He stressed that while the Hormuz is important for global energy and trade. It can only be reopened “in consultation with Iran”.
