A 33-year-old Indian national, Tarsem Singh, accused in a high-speed police chase that ended in a fatal crash in Ohio, has pleaded not guilty while facing multiple felony charges and a possible deportation if convicted.
High-Speed Chase Ends In Fatal Crash
According to reports from US-based outlet WDTN, the incident took place on February 16, 2026, in Darke County, Ohio. Authorities said a deputy noticed Singh driving a Range Rover Velar at around 100 miles per hour. When officers attempted to pull him over, he allegedly sped away, triggering a police pursuit.
The chase continued for nearly five miles before ending in a collision on Ohio State Route 47. Singh’s vehicle crashed into a Jeep Cherokee, leading to the death of a 17-year-old pregnant girl, identified as Ashlee Holmes, along with her unborn child. She was thrown from the vehicle and later declared dead. The driver of the Jeep was also injured but survived.
Multiple Felony Charges Filed
A grand jury in Darke County indicted Tarsem Singh on March 23 on several serious charges. These include felony involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and aggravated vehicular homicide related to the deaths of Holmes and her unborn child. He is also facing charges of vehicular assault and failure to comply with police instructions.

Prosecutors allege that Singh’s reckless driving and decision to flee from law enforcement directly contributed to the deadly outcome. Authorities stated that he was driving well above the legal speed limit at the time of the incident.
Immigration Action And Court Proceedings
Following his arrest, Singh was taken into custody and later airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration detainer on him, which could lead to deportation depending on the outcome of the case.
During a recent court appearance, Singh appeared via video link with the help of an interpreter. When asked about his citizenship, he confirmed that he is not a US citizen. His bond has been set at $1 million.
Officials also noted that Singh is currently involved in an asylum case, and his legal situation could have further implications depending on how the charges are resolved.
