In the early hours of Monday, two Assam Rifles troops were injured in an attack thought to be carried out by the outlawed insurgent organisation NSCN-KYA in Nagaland’s Mon district.

The injured Assam Rifles personnel were sent to Jorhat Air Force Hospital for further treatment. According to Assam Rifles, injuries among the militants are also suspected in the event, which occurred along the interstate line between Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. Search efforts are now underway. Troops are on heightened alert after foiling an attempt by the banned rebel organisation National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K-YA).

Assam Rifles troops have been aggressively occupying strategic locations in anticipation of increased security in the run-up to the 2022 Independence Day festivities. The Assam Rifles stated in a statement that their deployment posture was aimed to resist any unjustifiable attempt by rebel factions to disrupt peace in the region.

Based on convincing intelligence about underground cadre movement, soldiers of the Assam Rifles set up various ambushes to dominate and secure the general region Nyasa in Mon District.

“At around 0235 hours on August 15, the alert scouts, noticed suspicious movement of UG (underground) cadres on a jungle track coming from Zankham to Nyasa. On being challenged by their own troops, the UGs opened fire, which was appropriately retaliated causing severe casualties to the UG group,” the Assam Rifles statement said.
