According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), nine additional people perished in Assam as a result of the flood, bringing the total death toll to 54.
The flood catastrophe has affected 18.94 lakh people across 28 districts. Assam’s Hojai, Nalbari, Bajali, Dhubri, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, and Sonitpur districts have all reported deaths.
So far this year, 54 people have died in the state due to floods and landslides. According to governmental data, there are currently 2,930 communities under water in 96 revenue circles.
In the flood-affected districts, 43338.39 hectares of crops have been inundated. In various parts of the state, the water levels of the Beki, Manas, Pagladiya, Puthimari, Jia Bharali, Kopili, and Brahmaputra rivers are over the danger level.
There are currently 1,08,104 flood victims taking refuge in 373 rescue camps put up by the district administration. In Bajali district alone, 3.55 lakh people have been impacted, followed by 2.90 lakh in Darrang, 1.84 lakh in Goalpara, 1.69 lakh in Barpeta, 1.23 lakh in Nalbari, 1.19 lakh in Kamrup, and 1.05 lakh in Hojai.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Assam’s Kamrup district has worsened as flood waters have spread to other places, affecting more than 70,000 people.
Following heavy rainfall, the water level of the Borolia river and other significant rivers in the district is rising. The Borolia river’s floodwaters washed over a piece of an embankment at Choumukha on Thursday, submerging many communities in the Hajo area.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor and director Rohit Shetty for donating Rs 5 lakh to the CM Relief Fund for flood victims in the state earlier on Thursday.
