The Union Health Ministry reported a spike in daily COVID-19 cases in India on Wednesday, with the country reporting 8,822 new infections in the preceding 24 hours.

On Tuesday, the country registered 6,594 new infections, an 18% reduction from the previous day’s total of 8,084 COVID-19 cases. According to the government, with the inclusion of these new cases today, the active caseload in India has grown to 53,637, accounting for 0.12 percent of the total caseload.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 5,718 persons have been recovered from coronavirus infection, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 4,26,67,088. The recovery rate in India is 98.66%.

The daily positivity rate is 2%, while the weekly positivity rate is 2.35 %.

So far, 85.58 crore COVID-19 tests have been administered across the country, with 4,40,278 administered in the previous 24 hours.

Meanwhile, India’s immunisation programme has surpassed the 195.5 crore dosage threshold. This has been accomplished with 2,51,27,455 sessions.

COVID-19 immunisation for children aged 12-14 years old began on March 16, 2022. So far, more than 3.53 crore (3,53,38,654) adolescents have received the first dose of the COVID vaccination.

So far, more than 193.53 crores (1,93,53,58,865) of vaccine doses have been distributed to states/UTs, with over 13.40 crore (13,40,04,935) of balance and unutilized doses remaining.
