The head of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Abdulla Shahid, arrived in Delhi on Sunday on a two-day trip to India. Meetings with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra are on his schedule.
Shahid, who heads the UN’s main policy-making body, also serves as the Maldives’ foreign minister. His meeting would be centred on current General Assembly concerns and India’s involvement with the UN. He would also meet Shombi Sharpi, the UN Resident Coordinator in India.
An official UN statement – announcing his India visit – earlier read: “President Shahid will be traveling with a delegation of three members of his Office. The OPGA Trust Fund and the Government of the Republic of India are responsible for covering the expenditures of the visit.
