Six were killed and eight were severely injured after an overloaded vehicle transporting voters crashed into a nullah in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Sunday.

As per the local authorities, the six victims killed included women. “The tragedy occurred about 12:30 p.m. in the Chhari neighbourhood of Dudhnial when the vehicle fell into a 300-foot-deep dry nullah”, cited District Disaster Management Officer Akhtar Ayoub.

According to Ayoub, the collision was serious as vehicle was carrying passengers much above its limit.

According to reports, the passengers were Thanda Pani village inhabitants who had come to vote at the neighbouring election booths.

The injured were taken to the Dudhnial Basic Health Unit, where five were sent to Muzaffarabad for additional treatment owing to serious injuries.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed sorrow over the deaths in the disaster.

He said “I was shocked to learn that valuable lives had been lost in the catastrophe. May Allah grant them endurance.”
