In a complete turn of events, The BJP has made the decision to run against the AAP in the election for deputy mayor and mayor of Delhi. Following their defeat in the civic election, the BJP finalised its list of candidates for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) offices.

Rekha Gupta, a Shalimar Bagh-based BJP councillor, has been picked to run for mayor, while Kamal Bagri, a candidate from the Ram Nagar ward, will run for deputy mayor.

The AAP, which currently has the most council members in the civic body, has declared Aale Mohammad Iqbal as its candidate for deputy mayor and Shelly Oberoi as its candidate for mayor. Ms. Iqbal is a councillor from Chandani Mahal, while Ms. Oberoi is from East Patel Nagar.

The AAP won 134 of the 250 seats up for election on December 4, ending the BJP’s 15-year hold on the Delhi civic body. With 104 seats, the BJP came in second place, but Amit Malviya, the party’s director of information technology, had said the race for mayor was still wide open.

“Now let’s choose a mayor for Delhi. It will all rely on who can maintain a majority in a tight race, how the nominated council members vote, etc. For instance, Chandigarh has a BJP mayor “Earlier, he tweeted.

Days later, Adesh Gupta, the head of the BJP in Delhi, informed NDTV that the AAP will be the next mayor since it had won the poll. He said that the BJP will act as a formidable opponent in the MCD.

On January 6, elections for the positions of mayor and deputy mayor will be conducted.
