The waters of an overflowing Jiadhal river have inundated numerous villages in Assam’s Lakhimpur district’s Dhakuakhana region.
Floodwaters have also flooded a portion of the connecting road between Dhakuakhana and Gogamukh.
Following continuous rainfall in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, the water level of the Jiadhal river has increased.
According to reports, flooding has hit at least six villages in the Dhakuakhana area, and thousands of bighas of agriculture in the area are still under water.
The floodwaters have also penetrated numerous residents’ homes and swamped schools.
In addition to Dhakuakhana, storm waters have flooded 36 villages in Dhemaji district.
The flood has affected around 15,000 individuals in the Dhemaji area.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reports that 49 villages in five districts of the state are still impacted.
According to the ASDMA, the cumulative death toll in Assam from this year’s floods and landslides has reached 199.
