Assam suspends internet services in view of state recruitment exam today

Assam is about to experience another internet blackout as thousands of applicants show up for the second round of the ongoing massive hiring drive across many ministries in the state government.

Candidates who have applied for Class-III posts will take the test during the second part of the recruitment campaign, which will take place today. However, September 11 is the scheduled date for the third and final phase. For the record, the opening round took place on August 21.

This recruitment campaign, which is by far the largest in the state, will determine the fates of over 14 lakh hopefuls against approximately 30,000 positions, therefore the state government has been considerably harsher this time.

In specific locations where the exams will be taken, section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code is also being promulgated, in addition to the strict security measures put in place in each exam centre.

In order to assure the success of the tests, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with a number of stakeholders before to the second round.

After the review meeting, Sarma tweeted, “We pledge to undertake the huge recruiting campaign for Grade III and IV positions as transparently as possible. In a VC, preparations for tomorrow’s Gr. III post exams throughout the State were reviewed. All the best to the contenders!”

He had earlier requested that DCs and SPs be prepared with their personnel and equipment to deter dishonest individuals from interfering with the examination process.

In addition to placing government gazetted officers in place for each test centre as observers to make sure the SOPs are properly and successfully carried out, each of the 25 districts where the exams will be taken will have one nodal officer.

Additionally, a police officer with the rank of sub-inspector will be stationed in each examination centre with assistance from additional officers.

Mobile phones and other electronic devices will not be permitted within the testing facilities by either the applicants or the invigilators.

Two videographers will be hired by the center-in-charge at each testing location to record any significant events during the exam.
