Nupur Sharma claimed on Friday that she has been threatened with death and rape on social media after a "so-called fact-checker" distributed badly manipulated footage from one of her recent debates
Nupur Sharma, a national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party, claimed on Friday that she has been threatened with death and rape on social media after a “so-called fact-checker” distributed badly manipulated footage from one of her recent debates on a TV channel on the Gyanvapi mosque matter.
“A so-called fact-checker has begun to poison the atmosphere by releasing a heavily edited and selected footage from one of my debates from last night. Since then, I’ve been receiving murder and rape threats, as well as threats to behead me and my family members “stated Nupur Sharma.
Sharma claimed that an owner of Alt News used an edited video to incite trolls against her and that he should be held “responsible” if her family suffers harm.
“I’ve labeled the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Commissioner of Police. I believe that harm will be done to me and my immediate family. If any harm is caused to me or my family, Mohammed Zubair, who I believe is the owner of Alt News, is solely accountable “she explained.
Furthermore, she added “If I was mistaken, the fact-checkers should correct the record rather than threaten my life. Please speak up and correct the record. It’s not just unethical, but it’s also unlawful. He (Zubair) is a fake-spreader, not a fact-checker.”
Sharma further stated that she is compiling a list of all threats made against her and would file a report.
The BJP spokesperson used Twitter to mention Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana in a tweet about threatening texts she had received. She also requested the Delhi Police to take the case seriously and provide security for her family.
In a tweet, the BJP leader remarked “Threats of rape, death, and beheading have been made against my sister, mother, father, and me. I’ve informed @DelhiPolice about this. If something bad occurs to me or a member of my family.”
According to Delhi Police, the matter has been forwarded to the appropriate officials for follow-up.
