Alia Bhatt’s NCB Anti-Drug Video Sparks Backlash
The Narcotics Control Bureau and Alia Bhatt recently teamed up to put out an anti-drug video where she urges people to take a pledge against drug abuse.
Sounds good on paper, right? But instead of getting praise, she got slammed hard online. The NCB had to turn of their comment just after 6 comments, the video got almost 690 reposts and had 1.1 million views.
People were calling her out, saying things like she should “start from home” basically pointing fingers at the Bollywood drug controversies and implying she has no place preaching about drugs. Also considering the video of Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Varuun Dhawan and many more actors that went viral around 4 years ago.
Still, the recent online hate shows how messy it gets when celebrities try to speak on social issues. Fans expect them to be flawless and live spotless lives, which is never realistic and neither is it fair. The tweets online were nothing less than being absolutely brutal, many people who reposted the video had something to say and most of it bad.
One person also tweeted, “Why do they keep making us take pledges? When has a pledge ever worked? If someone offers me drugs, I am not going to be like but I promised Alia Bhatt”
People thrashing the Bollywood industry for something they don’t follow themselves is nothing new. Many such videos has come and gone and what one can see happening is how the top actors lose relevance when it comes to a certain things, Even after starring in Udta Punjab, a movie that was basically a hard-hitting take on the drug problem in Punjab, that spreads the message to understanding addicts, not blaming them.
Yet the backlash faced on the NCB anti- drug video was harsh than ever.
