On Friday, a Naxal in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district was killed in an encounter with security forces while holding a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, according to police.

According to Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P, the gunfight happened this morning in a forest close to Bindrapani village while a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from the neighboring Dantewada district was out on an anti-Naxal operation along the inter-district border.
He added that the patrol team had launched the operation on Thursday night in the Dantewada-adjacent forest after acting on specific information.
He said the security forces continued investigation of the area, the ultras managed to escape after a brief encounter.
Naxal killed was identified as Rakesh Madkam who was active as Katekalyan area committee member of Maoists. As per police, eight cases related to Maoist incidents were registered against Madkam.
Chhattisgarh police gunned down a Naxal on 30 June, who too was with a reward of 5 lakh, in Raipur.
