In eastern Ladakh, China is constructing its second large bridge around the strategically crucial Pangong Tso Lake. According to the satellite image and expert opinion, this will assist the Chinese army in quickly mobilizing its forces in this area. The bridge is being built in the midst of a two-year standoff between Indian and Chinese soldiers in numerous locations in eastern Ladakh.
The Indian Army, on the other hand, has given no formal response to this new building. After Indian troops secured many strategic peaks on the southern bank of Pangong Lake in August 2020, China is working on bolstering its military facilities.
However, India is also building bridges, roads and tunnels in the border areas as part of all efforts to enhance military preparedness. It is learned that China has recently completed the construction of the first bridge in the area.
Meanwhile, experts have told that the new bridge is being built in an area of more than 20 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The distance between the remote territory of Rudok and the area around the Line of Actual Control at Pangong Tso will be greatly decreased with the construction of the bridge.
On the 4-5 May 2020, Indian and Chinese forces clashed in Eastern Ladakh. India has insisted on restoring the status quo that existed prior to the deadlock.
To resolve the Eastern Ladakh conflict, India and China have had 15 rounds of military negotiations. The two sides concluded the disengagement process on the north and south banks of Pangong Lake, as well as in the Gogra area, last year as a consequence of the talks.
India has insisted on the need of maintaining peace along the LAC for the growth of bilateral relations. Approximately 50,000 to 60,000 soldiers from both countries are currently stationed on the Line of Actual Control in this sensitive area.
