Indian play began with Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison’s doubles pair taking on Lailaa Edwards and Danisha Jayavant Patel. The Indians dominated their opponent, winning the first tie in the first three games by scores of 11-7, 11-7, and 11-5. India led the game 1-0 when Manika Batra entered the fray as the standout player. She was going head-to-head with Mushfiquh Kalam.
Batra increased India’s dominance in the game to a new level. She completely outplayed her adversary and won the match 11-5, 11-3, and 11-2. India won the game with a score of 2-0.
Sreeja Akula competed against Danisha Jayavant Patel in the third match. The dismal performance of South Africa continued in this match, which Patel lost in three games by scores of 11-5, 11-3, and 11-6.
With this, India defeated South Africa 3-0 in their group encounter.
At 8.30 IST, Indian ladies will face off against Fiji.
Commonwealth Games began on July 28 in Birmingham and will go through August 8.
215 athletes from India will compete in 141 events in 19 different sports to represent their country.
