On Wednesday, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) carried out an anti-encroachment sweep in the Kalyanpuri region.

The demolition drive in Delhi will b conducted today in Seemapuri ,Jagdamba market of Sultanpuri.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) carried out an anti-encroachment sweep in the Kalyanpuri region.

Workers from the Aam Admi Party (AAP), led by MLA Kuldeep Kumar, held a protest as the drive began. The MLA alleged that the DDA was conducting the drive illegally because people had valid identification. Later, MLA Kuldeep Kumar and others were arrested for impeding the exercise.

“These people have genuine documentation, and we will not treat them unfairly,” said the MLA.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government requested a thorough report from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on the bulldozer drive that began on April 1 in the national capital.

On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that while his government opposes encroachment, it would not condone the use of bulldozers in the national capital by the BJP-led MCD, claiming that it would leave a huge number of people “homeless.”

Chief Minister further claimed that a huge portion of the national capital had been illegally enlarged and questioned the BJP-led MCD if such a large portion of the city would be removed as part of the demolition operation.

MCD recently carried out a wave of encroachment demolitions across the city, sparking outrage in some districts of the capital.

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) used bulldozers at Shaheen Bagh, New Friends Colony, Khyala, Vishnu Garden, and Madanpur Khadar earlier this month. Meanwhile, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) conducted a demolition drive in the Jahangirpuri neighbourhood last month.
