Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla will preside over a high-level conference on airport congestion in the national capital today.

The meeting will most likely take place after 11 a.m. in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The meeting would be attended by senior MHA officials, officials from the Minister of Civil Aviation, and others involved in the case, including those from Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The conference is being organised in response to angry customers’ complaints on social media about late flights and long pre-boarding lineups at India’s main airport, Delhi.

Images shared on Twitter depicted congestion at Delhi International Airport. There were reports of people complaining about lengthy security lines and poor airport administration.

The government has even stepped in to assist alleviate the congestion, with India’s Civil Aviation Ministry previously announcing that it is working with airlines to cut daily departures to 14 during peak hours. It did not reveal information about routine traffic.

In response to a social media complaint, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia visited one of the terminals earlier this week and stated that he will look into issues about the administration of security procedures at Delhi’s T3 Indira Gandhi (IGI) airport. The minister has directed airport personnel to rectify the difficulties as soon as possible.

In addition, the Delhi airport is installing baggage screening equipment at security checkpoints and boosting traffic marshals to prevent vehicles from cluttering the departure area.
