Adesh Gupta, the president of Delhi BJP, announced his resignation on Sunday. After the BJP was defeated in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi MCD elections, he resigned from his position. Virendra Sachdeva will be the new acting president.
Based on reports, “Adesh Gupta resigned following the MCD election defeat last week. His resignation has been approved by the Delhi BJP high command, and Virendra Sachdeva, who previously held the vice president position in Delhi, will take over as interim president.”
The BJP, led by Adesh Gupta, was forced to concede defeat in the elections for the Delhi Municipal Corporation by the Aam Aadmi Party.
In the civic body elections for the national capital, AAP defeated BJP, which had ruled the MCD for 15 years, winning 134 of the 250 available wards.
AAP won 134 wards, while BJP finished second with 104, according to the final results issued by the Delhi State Election Commission on Wednesday. Only 9 wards were won by Congress, while three were won by Independents.
Earlier on December 4, there were elections in 250 wards of the nation’s capital, with a turnout of roughly 50% and 1,349 candidates running for office. The low voting participation, however, did not prove to be a pro-incumbency sign.
