Delhi receives rainfall, monsoon likely to hit from today

Many parts of Delhi today witnessed rainfall, providing relief from the hot and humid weather. The temperature this summer went up to around 40 degree celsius.

Parts of Delhi that received rain this morning include East of Kailash, Burari, Shahdara, Patparganj, ITO, India Gate, Barapullah, Delhi-Noida border, and Delhi-Gurgaon border. The temperature in the city came down to 27.6 degrees Celsius.

During the office hours, parts of the city saw heavy traffic jams. Some parts of the city even experienced waterlogging, Pragati Maidan, Vinod Nagar, Jahangirpuri Metro Station, under Zakira Flyover, to name a few.

As per sources, two flights on the way to Delhi were also diverted due to heavy rains in the city. An Air India flight was diverted to Amritsar while the other which was an IndiGo flight was diverted to Jaipur. Airlines had already made people aware about the same and had also asked the passengers to keep a track of the flight status, so that they could report to the airport on time. Budget Carrier SpiceJet also informed that the rains might affect the arrivals and departures.

Alert was issued for the adjoining areas of Delhi that there might be thunderstorms with moderate intensity rain and gusty winds, as per sources. The maximum temperature will come down to 34-35 degrees Celsius in the upcoming days.

The Southwest Monsoon has also advanced towards Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. The monsoon this year will yield good rainfall for the first ten days and help cover up the rain deficit in Delhi. The city today has received just around 24.5 mm of rainfall as compared to the normal 66.7 mm since June 1.
