S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, will take part in a virtual meeting of the BRICS Foreign Ministers today, ahead of the expected June summit.

Apart from EAM Jaishankar, the meeting will be chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councillor Wang Yi, who will be joined by South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor, Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos Franca, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

BRICS foreign ministers will engage in “BRICS+” interaction with their colleagues from emerging markets and developing nations during the summit, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin.

A conference of BRICS health ministers was also held last week, at which it was agreed that the BRICS countries will develop an early warning system for large-scale pandemics.

BRICS is a multinational forum made up of five of the world’s largest emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
