Raids are being conducted at 26 locations, including his Namakal properties and those close to him and suspected to be his associates.

In Tamil Nadu, the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption authorities are raiding former two-time AIADMK MLA KPP Baskar.
Raids are being conducted at 26 locations, including his Namakkal properties and those close to him who are suspected to be his associates.

“The former MLA has accumulated 4.72 crore assets, 315 per cent more than his legal income,” the probe agency said in a statement. “Searches in Namakkal, Madurai, and Tiruppur are part of the ongoing investigation.”

The First Information Report, or FIR, shows a total lawful income of only 1.4 core during his second term as MLA between 2016 and 2021.

According to the complaint, after 61 lakh in expenses, the balance should be around 88 lakh. The MLA and his family, on the other hand, have acquired properties worth 4.72 crore, according to the FIR.

The AIADMK has yet to respond in writing. According to a party source, the raids are a “political vendetta,” and the party will pursue legal action.

Mr Baskar is the eighth AIADMK leader to be raided by the DMK government since it took power last year. There are seven former ministers among them.
