The youngest among the 12 children of the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao, Kanthamaneni Uma Maheswari, was found dead at her Hyderabad home on Monday 1st August. Jubilee Hills CI Rajasekhar Reddy said it is a case of suicide, and the reason will be ascertained after a detailed investigation.
It has been reported that she was suffering from a brief illness.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder NT Rama Rao had 12 children — eight sons and four daughters. Uma Maheswari was the youngest of four daughters. The police have registered a case under IPC section 174 as a suspicious death and are investigating the matter.
Uma Maheshwari was found hanging at her residence in Hyderabad, NTR’s three sons have already passed away.
The actor-turned-politician floated the TDP in 1982 and led the party to power within nine months in then undivided Andhra Pradesh. The politician was thrown out of power by his son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu, following a revolt.
The officials suspect the death to be a suicide case followed by depression over health issues. The Jubilee Hills police have shifted the body for autopsy.
