G Kishan Reddy, the Union Culture Minister, rejected media claims that the Archaeological Survey of India would commence excavating the Qutub Minar complex on Sunday.
“No such decision has been made,” Reddy replied. Meanwhile, Ministry of Culture directed the ASI to conduct excavation and idol iconography at Qutub Minar in order to ascertain the structure’s reality.
According to sources, an ex-ASI officer said that the Qutub Minar was not built by Qutb al-Din Aibak, but rather by Raja Vikramaditya to study the Sun’s direction.
Similarly, Vinod Bansal, a spokesman for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), recently claimed that Delhi’s famed building Qutub Minar was actually “Vishnu Stambh.”
He stated that the monument was constructed using materials salvaged from the demolition of 27 Hindu-Jain temples.
