Ghulam Nabi Azad, who recently declared separation after a five-decade association with the Congress, will start a new political jurney on Sunday in Jammu. He will launch the first unit of his own party. According to a close aide of the former chief minister, all preparations for Mr. Azad’s first public rally in Jammu have been completed.
According to former minister GM Saroori, Mr. Azad would have a magnificent welcome upon his arrival from Delhi on Sunday morning and a procession would precede him to the venue of the public gathering at the Sainik Colony.
Mr. Saroori resigned from Congress in support of Azad.
Mr. Azad, 73, is expected to announce the launch of his own political party.
On August 26, he withdrew his five-decade affiliation with the Congress, calling the group “comprehensively destroyed.” Rahul Gandhi was also criticised by him for allegedly “demolishing” the whole consultation process inside the party.
Many grassroots activists from Jammu and Kashmir, including a former deputy chief minister, eight former ministers, a former member of parliament, and nine legislators, have switched to the Azad camp.
At the Satwari chowk along the Jammu-Airport road and on the way to the location of the public demonstration, where seating for more than 20,000 people has been set up, billboards and banners welcoming Mr. Azad have been put.
“All those who resigned in support of Azad will be present at the public meeting,” Mr Saroori, who was working on these arrangements for the public meeting, told the media.
