Gujarat: CM Bhupendra Patel examines flood-affected areas

Bhupendra Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat, examined the situation in five districts of the state impacted by severe rain on Wednesday.

After an airborne examination, the Chief Minister’s dashboard has sounded a red alarm. Patel obtained information on the grave situation caused by the torrential rains in the districts of Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Navsari, Dang, and Vaslad from the district collectors. The Chief Minister evaluated the rain condition in five districts using the CM dashboard after touring the rain-affected Narmada, Navsari, and Chhotaudepur districts yesterday.

The Chief Minister also assessed the amenities offered to residents of low-lying regions in these districts who were relocated to safer locations as well as their access to shelters.

“On the road or causeway where water is flowing, where the lake is flooded, small dams are flooded and water is flowing on the roads, then it is necessary to close such roads and that no person or vehicle should pass from such roads and that the police force should be put up there.”

The district administrations of these five districts were also given instructions by the chief minister to conduct rescue and relief operations, provide electricity, water, and health services, as well as the required coordination of NDRF and SDRF personnel.

He stated that because human life is extremely important, all essential precautions should be taken to minimise both the loss of life and the loss of property as a result of rain.

Patel advised the administrative authorities of every district hit by the rain to make sure that the residents of the shelters receive enough food and other necessities. Patel also gave the order to promptly remove any standing rainwater and clean the roads in the Navsari and Dang districts in order to remove the obstacles.

The Chief Minister additionally requested that the collectors of these five districts in constant communication with the state government in case any more urgent assistance becomes necessary.

Patel was joined during this evaluation and discussion by Chief Secretary S. Pankaj Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Pankaj Joshi, and Relief Commissioner P. Swaroop.

According to authorities, 14 people were killed by exceptionally severe rains that hit parts of south Gujarat and Kutch-Saurashtra in the past 24 hours, and more than 31,000 people have been evacuated overall during this rainy season.

Due to rain damage, three national roads in the districts of Kutch, Navsari, and Dang were shut. State Disaster Management Minister Rajendra Trivedi informed reporters that 51 state highways and more than 400 panchayat roads had also been destroyed.
