Hyderabad Police Department would request a waiver in the event of gang rape so that young individuals are not tried as adults. Six people have been charged, four of them are under the age of 18 and one will be turning 18. The adult suspect in the tragic teen gang-rape case in Hyderabad was handed over to the police on Wednesday by a municipal court. The other five suspects, all of whom were minors, were also wanted by the authorities.

Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s leader, K T Rama Rao, has come in support of police’s plan to approach the Juvenile Justice Board to try the minor accused of rape as an adult.

“If you are adult enough to commit a crime as horrific as rape, you must also be punished as an adult & not as a child,” KTR posted on Twitter.

A police official revealed on Wednesday that they have also demanded custody of the children and that a petition has been filed with the appropriate juvenile board for this purpose.

Last month, six persons were detained in connection with the gang rape of a teenage girl in this city. However, five of the six accused are juveniles.

The perpetrators of the heinous crime, according to Commissioner Anand, have been charged under stringent sections of the law. According to him, the sections’ consequences might include life in prison or perhaps the death penalty. To hear the case, a special court would be convened.
