In suspected IED blast in Manipur’s Thoubal, one labourer killed, four others injured

Unidentified miscreants detonated a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) at a community centre in Manipur’s Thoubal district early Monday, killing a labourer from West Bengal and injuring four others, police said.
They stated the workers, who were all from West Bengal, were sleeping when the incident occurred in the Khongjom district.
According to the police, the IED exploded about 1.14 a.m. inside the community centre where several non-Manipuris working for the water tank construction companies Koya and GCKC were residing.
At the Thoubal district hospital, Pankaj Mahato (21) of Khariatabad succumbed to his injuries. According to a police officer, all four were working on a water tank at the community hall.
Aroop Mandal (30), Souvik Patra (18), Apoorva Mondal (25) and Rajesh Ramaanik are among the injured who are being treated in a hospital (19). According to police sources, the injured were brought to Thoubal District Hospital before being referred to JNIMS in Imphal.
Police have launched a new inquiry.
