UNSC: India dispatches 12th consignment of humanitarian aid to Ukraine

On the particular request of the Ukrainian side, India said on Wednesday that it is ready to send its 12th cargo of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which would include 26 different types of pharmaceuticals.

Addressing a United Nations Security Council briefing, the country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, stated that humanitarian aid includes ‘hemostatic bandages,’ which are meant to stop the bleeding of deep wounds in children and adults and are included in the aid on the Ukrainian side’s specific request as the members gather to mark 6 months since the beginning of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
This comes as Ukrainian officials have asked for aid from the Indian government to deal with the country’s impending catastrophe.

“In terms of vaccinations, we have provided for the whole world. We did it before with drugs. So, I’d want to assure this council that India would take the lead anytime the global south faces food, health, or energy security challenges “Kamboj said.

The ambassador stated that India’s strategy will be to support communication and diplomacy to resolve the crisis and minimize the economic issues arising from the protracted conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The Indian envoy to the UN also stated that numerous nations have sought India for wheat and sugar supplies, to which India has responded favourably.

“In the last three months alone, India has shipped more than 1.8 million tonnes of wheat to nations in need, like Afghanistan, Myanmar, Sudan, and Yemen,” Ruchira Kamboj stated, condemning Russia’s and Ukraine’s continued conflict.

Kamboj further stated that the impact of the Ukraine crisis is not restricted to Europe, but is also worsening worries about food, fertiliser, and fuel security in developing countries.

At the same briefing, the ambassador noted that India supports discussions between Ukraine and Russia and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had talked to them on several occasions.

The Western member nations of the UN Security Council sought the meeting on Ukraine on Wednesday.
On July 22, Russia and Ukraine signed the Black Sea Initiative. The United Nations presented the agreement in a way that will aid in addressing the global food insecurity issue, which has resulted in a scarcity of food and increasing costs.

The war in Ukraine has killed or injured about 1,000 boys and girls, according to the director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), however, the true figure might be far higher.

“At least 972 children have been murdered or injured by violence in Ukraine since the crisis erupted over six months ago, an average of more than five children killed or injured every day,” UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said in a statement on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian people have been subjected to very terrible circumstances. Those escaping violence face severe risks, including family separation, maltreatment, sexual exploitation, and more attacks.
According to many UN organisations, families have been divided and lives have been shattered.
