India will help direct G20 through the next decade, says newly elected president Droupadi Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu stated on Monday that discussions on global issues to be addressed under India’s leadership will help guide the G20 into the next decade.

“In the coming months, India is also going to host the G-20 Group under its chairmanship. In this grouping, twenty big countries of the world will brainstorm on global issues under the chairmanship of India,” President Murmu said. In her maiden speech as the 15th President of India, Murmu said,”I am sure that the conclusions and policies that will emerge from this brainstorming in India will determine the direction of the coming decades.”

She also added that the world community has high aspirations for India in terms of guaranteeing global economic stability, supply chain ease, and peace.

It is worth noting that India will hold the G20 presidency beginning December 1, 2022, and will host the G20 leaders’ summit for the first time following year.

India will host a huge number of G20 activities at all levels around the country during its chairmanship of the G20, according to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.

At a weekly media conference, Ministry of External Affairs spokeswoman Arindam Bagchi stated that the G20 Summit would be preceded by a huge number of meetings, such as ministerial meetings, working group meetings, and unique initiatives that each nation may undertake.

“India will assume the presidency of G20 in December 2022. Apart from the Summit which we will hold next year whose dates are yet not finalized, a large number of G20 events at different levels will be organized across the country during our presidency. There is no need to speculate at this stage on these things,” he said.

Since the G20’s formation in 1999, India has been a member. India will assume the G20 Presidency on December 1, 2022, and will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit for the first time in 2023.

Droupadi Murmu was sworn in as India’s 15th President today in Parliament’s Central Hall in New Delhi. Murmu, the country’s first tribal and second woman to hold the country’s highest constitutional post, was sworn in by Chief Justice of India NV Ramanna.

She takes over for Ram Nath Kovind, whose five-year tenure expired on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the former Jharkhand governor Murmu, on July 22, registered a historic win over her rival Yashwant Sinha in the Presidential election, becoming the first woman tribal candidate and the second woman in the country to occupy the highest office in the country.
