Hours after being removed as the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, MP Raghav Chadha took to social media to post a compilation of his parliamentary interventions, sparking widespread attention.
The 37-year-old MP shared a video highlighting his speeches on key public issues, accompanied only by a ‘nazar’ or evil eye emoji, widely believed to ward off negative energy.
Chadha Posts Rajya Sabha Highlights After Party Snub
The video features Chadha raising concerns in Parliament on topics ranging from air pollution, rising airfares, and gig workers’ rights to the 28-day validity of mobile prepaid plans. Notably, Chadha did not write a caption for his post, letting the symbolic evil eye emoji convey his message after the AAP’s decision.

AAP Replaces Chadha as Deputy Leader
Earlier in the day, the AAP wrote to the Rajya Sabha secretariat requesting the removal of Chadha as the party’s deputy leader. Ashok Mittal, a Punjab MP and chancellor of Lovely Professional University, has been named as his replacement. The party also requested that Chadha not be allotted speaking time from its quota in the House, fueling speculation about internal rifts.
However, Mittal described the move as a “normal process” and emphasized that Chadha would still be given opportunities to speak in the Rajya Sabha in the future.
Silence on Key Party Developments Raises Speculation
Chadha’s demotion comes amid his absence from several AAP events and his silence on critical party developments. He remained abroad for medical treatment when Arvind Kejriwal was arrested in March 2024 and skipped major public gatherings after Kejriwal’s release. He also did not comment on the clean chit given to Kejriwal and former deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the excise case last month, heightening rumors about his strained relationship with the party leadership.
A Veteran AAP Leader in Rajya Sabha
Since joining AAP in 2012, Chadha has held several key roles, including national treasurer and vice-chairman of Delhi Jal Board. Elected to the Rajya Sabha in May 2022, he has gained recognition among younger voters for addressing everyday issues in Parliament. His interventions on airport food prices, traffic congestion, and workers’ rights have cemented his image as a proactive parliamentarian.
What’s Next for Raghav Chadha?
Despite the demotion, Chadha continues to raise public issues in Parliament and remains a prominent voice in Indian politics. The AAP leadership has yet to clarify his role in the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, leaving political observers speculating about his future trajectory.
