Russian President Putin Calls PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, during which the two leaders discussed the long-drawn Ukraine conflict and ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.
Putin shared his assessment of his recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska. Modi thanked Putin for the update and reiterated India’s consistent position in favour of a peaceful resolution of the conflict through diplomacy and dialogue.
The Prime Minister assured support for all initiatives aimed at ending the conflict and restoring stability, emphasising India’s role as a supporter of dialogue-based solutions.
Apart from this, the leaders also discussed bilateral cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. Both agreed to remain in close touch in the coming days.
Taking his official X handle, PM Modi posted, “Thank my friend, President Putin, for his phone call and for sharing insights on his recent meeting with President Trump in Alaska. India has consistently called for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and supports all efforts in this regard. I look forward to our continued exchanges in the days to come”.
During the summit in Alaska held on Friday, Russian President and his US counterpart Donald Trump discussed a possible peace plan for Ukraine. Under the proposals, Russia would give up small areas of occupied Ukrainian land, while Ukraine would hand over large parts of its eastern territory that Russia has so far failed to capture.
