The police has arrested six people for assaulting an Indian Army jawan, 26-year-old Kapil Kavad on 18th August, 2025, Monday. This incident happened at a highway toll plaza in UP’s Meerut. District Police Chief Vipin Handa told ANI that last night (17th August, 2025), a video was received in which some people were beating up a person. Mr Handa said that when the police investigated, it was found that the complainant is a jawan who was returning from his duty. According to the district police chief, the jawan had an argument with the toll workers over something. Mr Handa further said, “The toll workers beat him up. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, a case has been registered. On the basis of the video, six people have been arrested.”
This incident had happened at the Bhuni toll plaza in Sarurpur area on 17th August, Sunday when Kapil, the soldier hailing from the Gotka village was returning from the duty. An official said that Kapil’s car was struck in a long line of vehicles at the toll plaza. Kapil had requested the toll plaza employees to move the vehicles quickly that led to an argument, as per an official. The official also added that when the argument escalated, the toll plaza employees had thrashed Kapil. Kapil, a soldier from the Rajput Regiment, was pinned to a pole before being assaulted by the accused. Kapil’s cousin was also targeted during the attack.
According to some reports, the violence may have started after Kapil told the toll booth staff that his village falls outside the toll area.
