Social media is flooded with claims that the government is going to announce a war lockdown. Social media users are sharing a message on WhatsApp, Telegram, and other social media platforms claiming that the Indian government has announced a nationwide “war lockdown” due to the ongoing Iran conflict. However, the claim is false. The message, which began spreading on April 1, 2026, has no basis in reality, and no such directive has been issued by the Indian authorities.
There has been no announcement of a war lockdown by the Government of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office, or any state government. Authorities have not released any order imposing restrictions across the country. The viral claim is likely part of an April Fool’s Day.
While the lockdown claim is fake, the government has been monitoring the broader geopolitical situation. Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors to assess the potential domestic impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister urged states to work together as “Team India,” similar to the coordinated approach adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing the meeting, Modi described the geopolitical environment as “dynamic and uncertain.” He emphasised the need for the country to remain vigilant and prepared while focusing on protecting India’s economic stability.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining economic and trade stability, ensuring energy security, strengthening industry and supply chains, and safeguarding the interests of Indian citizens.
Modi also pointed to India’s earlier experience in managing global disruptions, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. He recalled how coordinated action between the Centre and states helped minimise disruptions to supply chains, trade, and daily life.
The Prime Minister noted that during the pandemic he held regular interactions with chief ministers to review the evolving situation and take timely decisions.
He added that the same spirit of cooperation and coordination between the Centre and states remains India’s greatest strength in navigating the current challenges.
